Debunking Anti-Wokeness
I want to add that it’s clear and evident that the targeting of trans people, using the argument it’s about protecting children, is part of a viscous top-down partisan agenda. The evidence of this is that we have had transgender people for a while now, we have had polls taken on the issue from both parties , and we have a “before the culture war agenda” and “after the culture war agenda” surveying of public opinion.
Back in 2016, being transgender was not at the forefront of polarizing issues and we see #MAGA memorabilia in Pride colors at that time without a negative reaction. The “Drain the Swamp” agenda was tied at that time to anger over America putting international interests above American national interests and the need to “buy American, manufacturing in America, curb immigration, punish illegal immigration”.
During this time, gender affirming care was a not a major issue of concern in red states however it was not celebrated it was an issue with common belief “just leave these people alone”.
In 2022 and 2023 the same unchanged actions on the part of transgender people leading to extreme accusations against this community is substantially being driven by the political agenda time and money and deliberate policy-making of the huddled Republican Party in a coordinated effort to stampede the courts with a relentless buildup of anti-LGBTQ legislation creating the illusion that the people are behind it, keeping in mind that public opinion polls have trailed behind the agenda of the Republican lawmakers who have initiated these pieces of legislation from directives of the top of the Party, not from petitions of angry citizens.
Making things even more effective, organized rightwing groups with full support from the Republican Party have seen an increase in their power and authority as a disproportional share of power, have tapped into social media spaces impersonating ordinary angry people, and recruiting actual ordinary people to become more politicized towards this planted culture war. As a result, a dominating narrative has effectively won ordinary people to follow along and join the ranks, which has converted some 15–20% of the US population that 5 years ago had no strong opinion on transgender policies and now advocate for extreme negative actions against this targeted group.
